COMPETITION DETAILS

Competition Rules

The competition will take place from October 15 – 19, 2023 in New Delhi

The competition is open to Indians (Indian passport, OCI card holders) Candidates with more than one year of formal study of the classical guitar outside India will be discouraged from entering

Candidates must use a classical guitar with nylon strings for the competition

Candidates must submit their proposed programme for the first and second rounds by September 15 through a separate form which will be emailed to all registered candidates
– Programme proposals will be approved and accepted by the organising team at the very latest by September 30.
– The only criterion for acceptance of the programme will be that it falls under the broad category of acceptable guitar music for classical guitar.
– After initial submission no changes to the proposed programme will be permitted unless the organising team reaches out to the candidate requiring them to alter the programme.

First round:
-Free-choice programme of at least 9 minutes and no more than 15 minutes. Candidates playing less than 9 minutes will not be considered for the second round.
-The free-choice programme must include at least one piece from Opus 6 (12 studies) by Fernando Sor.

Second (final) round:
-Free-choice programme of at least 18 minutes and no more than 25 minutes.
-One piece of short duration (5 minutes), may be repeated from the First Round programme.

Adjudication

There will be a panel of 3-5 judges for the first and second rounds which will consist of members from the following list: Roger Tristao Adao, Samrat Majumder, Madhavan Somanathan, Xavier Jara-Bishop, Ganesh Dutta, Srijit Mukherjee and Veda Aggarwal.

The Jury will consider musical interpretation, technical mastery of the instrument, expressiveness, and originality in the overall presentation of each candidate’s performance and nominate up to four candidates for the second round.

Both rounds will be open to the public.

The jury’s decision is binding.

Prizes

An expense-paid trip (including travel and visa) to participate in Friedrichsrode Guitar Festival “Gitarrentage” in Germany in late July-August 2024 (or 2025) including concerts, masterclasses, room and board.
